To understand the background to our current position, we should start with the original aviation player in India, Air Works India Engineering.

Air Works India (AWI) is one of the oldest aviation-based companies in India. It was founded by the Late Mr. B.G. Menon and Mr. P.S. Menon in 1951. This makes it an even older entity than Air India or Indian Airlines!

Throughout its 53 years of existence, it has relentlessly focused on aircraft maintenance and allied services, building a great reputation for its technical expertise and professional excellence. The “Air Works’ name is very well-known in the aviation sector ,both nationally as well as internationally.

Our current capability is to service/maintain 23 different kinds of aircraft, as certified by DGCA. We service/maintain all kinds of aircraft, from helicopters, to turboprops and the latest business jets like GulfStream and Global Express. Our customer list reads like the who’s-who of Indian business: Reliance, Tatas, AV Birla Group, Raymonds (JK), Finolex , Govts of Maharashtra/Gujarat etc.

Another little known fact: Jet Airways’ maintenance facilities were started and run by Air Works for the first five years, from 1993 onwards.

Air Works have been informally involved in a technical and commercial advisory capacity on aircraft deals for a long time. For example, Reliance’s purchase of the Global Express 16-seater jet (the most modern and expensive business jet operating in India now) was jointly coordinated by Reliance Aviation deptt., and Air Works. We handled the pre and final inspection checks, managed its movement from Canada to India (Mumbai), assisted in the Registration and obtained the Certificate of Airworthiness from DGCA. The Indian formalities were completed very quickly.
